Electronics Technology

The OCC The Electronics Technology Program offers courses in electrical theory, troubleshooting, safety, and maintenance as well as specialized courses in robotics, industrial automation, communication systems, and computer hardware. Our program offers two pathways focused on robotics and industrial automation.

The robotics pathway focuses on the design, prototyping, and programming of autonomous and manually controlled robots. This pathway prepares students for careers working with electronic devices, robotic systems, and autonomous vehicles and systems. The industrial automation pathway focuses on systems used in manufacturing to control industrial processes. This pathway prepares students for careers as technicians in advanced manufacturing environments. Both pathways prepare students for continuing education in Electrical Engineering, Robotics and Systems Engineering, and Computer Science.

Program Details

Complete one of our certificate programs, and you’ll be well-prepared to enter a career in Electronics Technology. 

The Electronics Technology Program offers courses in electrical theory, troubleshooting, safety, and maintenance as well as specialized courses in robotics, industrial automation, communication systems, and computer hardware. Our program offers two pathways focused on robotics and industrial automation.

Automation Fundamentals

Use fundamental electrical laws and mathematics to analyze AC and DC Circuits. Acquire the skills necessary to connect to a PLC, diagnose system problems, backup a program, and restore a program to a controller. 

Embedded Systems Technician

Acquire skills necessary to program common microcontrollers using C-base programming languages and learn to use multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers to analyze circuits. 

Industrial Electronics Technician

Learn to maintain, troubleshoot basic industrial control systems and gain hands-on experience with switches, contactors, motor drives, and indicators.  

Industrial PLC Technician

Acquire the skills necessary to connect to a PLC, diagnose system problems, backup a program, and restore a program to a controller and gain the basic knowledge required to take the CET (Certified Electronics Technician) exam.

Robotics Technician

Learn to program robots to conduct autonomous tasks using basic control theory and work with servos, motors, and stepper motors to power motion systems. 

Embedded Systems

Acquire skills necessary to program common microcontrollers using C-base programming languages and learn about using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers to analyze circuits. 

Industrial PLC Technician

Acquire the skills necessary to connect to a PLC, diagnose system problems, backup a program, and restore a program to a controller and gain the basic knowledge required to take the CET (Certified Electronics Technician) exam.
